Review: Long Macchiatos and Monsters by Alison Evans

Long Macchiatos and Monsters
by Alison Evans

Genres: QLTBG, Contemporary Romance

Jalen, lover of B-grade sci-fi movies, meets the far-too-
handsome P in a cafe while deciding whether or not to
skip uni again. When P invites them along to a double feature of Robot Monster and Cat Women of the Moon, Jalen can hardly believe that hot boys like bad sci-fi, too. But as their relationship progresses, Jalen realizes P leaves him wondering if they're on the same page about what dating means, and if that's what they're doing.
This story is part of an anthology from Less Than Three Press called Geek Out. It's a collection of trans and genderqueer romances.

This story was my favorite out of the ones I read from this bundle. For starters, the cover is beautiful and instantly had my interest. Even though this was a short story, I really felt like I got to know Jalen and P. Both were complex, but I definitely enjoyed being in their world. The ups and downs of their relationship are something that everyone can relate to.

The author did such a phenomenal job at handling the gender identity issues. They were woven into the story as a true part of it instead of being tagged on just for the sake of calling the book QUILTBAG friendly. The subtle exploration of gender and sex were eye opening for me as I fell in love with the story of Jalen and P.

**I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review with no compensation.
